Krista L. Scoggins, DVM
Clinical veterinarian
Dr. Scoggins received her DVM from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989, and practiced in Illinois for 2 years and is currently licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Virginia. She has a cumulative of 10 years in private practice for companion animal and exotic animal medicine and surgery. In 2000, she accepted a post-doctoral position with VCU Pharmacology & Toxicology Department and then a position as research associate in that department. During this time, she served as relief veterinarian for the Division of Animal Resources veterinary staff and led animal handling workshops for investigators through DAR services.
She joined the DAR veterinary staff in October 2020. In March of 2024, she organized and participated in Dr. Michael Swindle’s accredited workshop, Swine in Biomedical Research. Continuing education has also included AALAS meetings 2020, 2021, 2024; AVMA 2019, 2025; University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Fall Conference 2019; IACUC 101 Series 2022, and virtual educational CE sponsored by Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Vet Show Academy, VVMA, Fredericksburg VMA, Think Anesthesia, CEVA, Exubrion and Boehringer-Ingelheim.
